Park Ward Bentley S1 Continental Coupé 1956

1956 Bentley S1 Continental Park Ward Coupe, Design no. 701, Body no. J61. One of only 24 left hand drive of this design, produced 69 in total.

Chassis BC48LBG, engine BC47B.

In the fifties the Continentals were the fastest production cars on the road and it is still a wonderful, swift driving car with the additional benefit of both air conditioning and electric EZ power steering.

This car was acquired new through the Paris Bentley dealer Franco Britannic Autos in October ‘56 who sold this Continental coupe to Baron Empain, head of a famous family of industrialists in Brussels, Belgium.
The second owner was Comte Arnoul d’Arschot-Schoonhoven from Belgium, who kept the car until 2007 when it was acquired by the third owner, still in Belgium.
In 2011 the car came to England to Julia Villalba Baldanza in Cheltenham who ordered RR&B in Bromsgrove to bring the mechanical condition of the car to top condition.
In 2016 the Bentley came to the present owner, Hans van Eeuwijk in the Netherlands.

The car has been well looked after throughout its existence. Comte d’Arschot even sent his car to the Bentley factory in Crewe for maintenance and also to have factory air conditioning fitted. In later years the car was sent to ADP Coachcraft in Middlesex for total restoration.

The present owner has brought the car into concours condition, spending €30.000.

I am not a natural flatterer, I like to think that I "tell it like it is", politely I hope. So when I tell you that I am very impressed by the contents of your website, it is just not English politeness. I of course love the subject matter but you deal with it in an energetic and respectful manner. I am overwhelmed by the research that has gone into compiling the list of coachbuilders/bodybuilders for Europe and North America. I have never heard of the vast majority of them. Congratulations on an excellent website.
