Auto Royale is the world’s most exciting new high-end automotive event. Taking place at one of the finest country houses in the UK – Waddesdon Manor in Buckinghamshire, the former home of both the Rothschild family and the renowned Louis Vuitton Classic – between July 16 and July 18 2021, this modern reimagining of what the traditional Concours d'Elegance has become is a dynamic new event concept in which modern British culture meets world-class automotive machinery.
This luxurious yet accessible event promises not only to showcase some of the world’s most desirable and significant coachbuilt automobiles, but also pledges to offer its guests a feast of fine food, exciting entertainment and engaging retailing.
The inaugural 2021 Auto Royale is a true, multi-category, Concours d’Elegance with a mix of traditional and celebration classes which will be meticulously assessed and considered by a panel of international judges along strict International Chief Judges Advisory Group (ICJAG) guidelines.
In its first year Auto Royale offers some fine ‘Celebration Classes’, including:
- Carrozzerie Scaglietti
- Drogo / Carrozzeria Sports Cars
- 110th birthday of Juan Manuel Fangio
- 120th birthday of Sir William Lyons (featuring the 70th anniversary of C-Type)
Entry is possible either by invitation or application, and this world-class Concours positions itself as being equally attainable for both international collectors and local collectors with their own exceptional vehicles.
The team behind Auto Royale is uniquely positioned to give this new event everything it needs to succeed because they themselves are true classic car enthusiasts. Event founders Paul Mathers and Ben Guynan, along with Chief Curator Jarrah Venables, have a depth and breadth of automotive experience that ensures this spectacular new event’s success.
Paul’s love of cars stretches back as long as he can remember. An event management specialist, he is the founder of the multiple award-winning Motorclassica in Australia; an event he managed for more than ten years in a portfolio that also included the National 4x4 Outdoors Show and the Australian Motorcycle Expo.
Ben Guynan brings more than 25 years’ experience across international media brands, commercial partnerships, advertising, events and commercial business for some of the most recognised magazines and websites in the motorsport and classic motoring markets, while Jarrah Venables has more than 15 years of professional experience in the motorsport and collectors’ car industries.
Paul Mathers: “Auto Royale isn’t what you have come to expect from traditional Concours events. It is a new, bold and genuinely exciting concept that aims to shake-up the Concours culture and draw in a whole new community of automotive enthusiasts.
The team and I are incredibly excited to be launching this Concours in 2021, and I know all those who attend will have the chance to see some of the most remarkable and important coachbuilt cars ever created.”

2018 Chrysler Chronos Concept
The ArtCenter College of design, situated high on a hill overlooking Pasadena, is famous for one thing: training a good proportion of the world’s car designers.
They have changed themes of their annual show (this year it was held on October 28) several times but this year (2018) it was most appropriate that they celebrated the achievements of the car designers who graduated from there by inviting them to come with a car they designed. Of course some of the companies are long gone, like Studebaker, but private owners entered cars to honor those designers.
In some respects the “old car show” was a bit like a new car show because there were several prototypes. But that just shows that Art Center grads are currently on the leading edge of the world’s car designers. The only beef I have is that the new wave of prototypes are electric cars, alas, what happened to heavy breathing rhumba-rhumba exhaust blaring performance?

I am not a natural flatterer, I like to think that I "tell it like it is", politely I hope. So when I tell you that I am very impressed by the contents of your website, it is just not English politeness. I of course love the subject matter but you deal with it in an energetic and respectful manner. I am overwhelmed by the research that has gone into compiling the list of coachbuilders/bodybuilders for Europe and North America. I have never heard of the vast majority of them.
Congratulations on an excellent website.
